You don’t have to go at it alone: Why support matters when you’re trying something new.

Last week, I had one of those tender parenting moments that reminded me just how important support is—no matter your age.

My daughter was about to try something totally new, and she was nervous. 🦋
She told me about the butterflies in her tummy, and instead of brushing them off, I acknowledged them.
I told her, “It’s okay to be scared when you try new things.” I also reminded her, “I’ll be right here if you need some more support.”

Because sometimes, just knowing someone’s nearby can make all the difference.

It brought to mind a recent conversation I had with one of the movers I work with.
She’d been eyeing a new walking group but kept hesitating to join. 👀
We explored ways to make the transition easier, and she ended up asking her partner to come along for the first couple sessions.
That small shift—choosing not to go it alone—helped ease her nerves and made starting something new feel a lot more doable.

Here’s the thing:
In a hyper-individualistic world, we’ve often internalized a message that sounds like:

“Why can’t you do this alone? You should be able to!”

But let’s rewrite that old, tired tape. 📼
Let’s say instead:

“We were meant to be supported. We were meant to live in community. We were never meant to do it all alone.”

So whether it’s your first fitness class, a new walking group, or anything outside your comfort zone—ask someone you trust to come with you.

Wouldn’t you do the same for a friend?
Who could you invite to support you next time you're doing something new?
(Tag them below and make it official—they’re now your “try something new” buddy 😉)
