I teach class in a community center, which is super cool- because there’s always a bunch of stuff going on in the other rooms afterwards (wrestling tournaments, holiday fairs etc.)
-
Today, there was a flea market going on- so naturally, I put my “barter Betty” hat on, and took a stroll through.
-
I know I’m not your average person-I love making small talk with all the vendors (when they probably want me to just hand them the quarter and leave?)
-
But for some reason, connecting with others and showing interest in what they do-
Makes me feel good.
-
I also met Sandy, who ran the show- there was a donation table in the front where you could donate to the life skills classes that they have at the community center for adults with learning disabilities.
-
Sandy was telling me that the population tends to get overlooked sometimes because most people want to donate to children’s’ charities.
I listened to her for about 20-30 minutes about her work and learned that she is doing some amazing work in Spokane with what she’s given.
-
It was a reminder to me that doing unexpected things (walking into a flea market) leads to other cool things (meeting some amazing members of the community)
Which reminded me how much each one of us has the ability to make a difference.
-
I don’t believe Sandy has 2million subscribers or followers (could be wrong...) but Sandy is the type of person I look up to, a hero- someone who selflessly shows up day in and day out to improve the lives of others.
-
The flea market is open until 4pm if you are in the area- if not, let this be a reminder (as it was to me) that health and wellness are FAR more than a going to a gym class or eating an Apple-
It grows with connection to each other- listening to one another stories, and realizing that we all have the power to make a difference in home, our self and our community!
